The plaintiff, Ruth E. Welker, who is the wife of the defendant, James E. Welker, brought this action for custody of the child
of the parties. Mr. Welker was awarded custody of the child by the trial court, but the plaintiff was allowed extensive visitation
privileges. The mother lives in an apartment in Kenosha and is a teacher in the public schools. She earns about $5,000 per year. The
father resides in Racine and teaches in the public schools and earns about $6,100 per year. The parties were married on August
15, 1959, and only the one child involved in this litigation was born of this marriage. She is Carol Kristine Welker, who
was born on September 29, 1960.
